Know that you are supporting a good thing when you purchase your flowers from a local, sustainable and organic farmer like me. Understanding where wholesale commodity florist flowers come from might change your buying habits forever. Most are grown outside of the USA in specialized greenhouses by exploited workers exposed to harsh pesticides and chemicals (many of which are outlawed in the USA or highly regulated), they are preserved, shipped long distances and arrive stressed and highly toxic (think roses-I wouldn't put my nose in a commercial rose). These flowers are bred to withstand the rigors of shipping and most have had the smell bred out of them. Those that don't ship well, are NOT available unless you purchase locally! Fragrant sweet peas, zinnias, premium delphinium, phlox and lupine, fresh herbs, scented geraniums...ummm, the list goes on and on. Local is best; the freshest, most vibrant, lasting beauties your money can buy.
